Where the differences come in are the ability to summon Lucien Lachance vs. Likewise, I prefer the Blade of Woe to the Nightingale Blade, but the Nightingale Bow is far superior to Firiniel's End. The Ancient Shrouded Armor is much more useful to a stealthy character than the standard Thieves' Guild set, but the Nightingale Armor balances that out.
In terms of the rewards for going through their questlines, the DB just comes out slightly ahead, IMO. I prefer the Dark Brotherhood because of the rewards, but only just.
